It’s been quite some time since I posted, let alone posted a progress update on my book, The Lucin Stone. Since it’s been so long I’ve decided to just include a few other things that have been going on.
Update On My Book
My beta readers have been going over the story, and have already sent me back some feedback. I’ve been applying changes and have decided to add a prologue and possibly one other scene to a chapter. Currently, my word count is 180,000. It’s fluctuated with my revisions, but it will probably be higher than that once I’m done. I’m so glad that I have beta readers! Their feedback has been amazing and I’ve already improved my manuscript with their help. Besides going over my beta reader’s suggestions, I’ve been trying to clean up my manuscript to make it the best it can be, by going over the chapters several times. It’s a slow process, but with time I’ll finish the draft.
After this draft is polished, I might want new beta readers. Though I’m a bit worried I won’t be able to find any the next time around.
One more thing, I updated my blurb. I would like to thank Kay for helping me. 🙂 I couldn’t have made it better without you. I also still have the first two chapters of my book available to read here. Sadly, they’re an early draft and I’ve since improved them, but they haven’t changed too much.
My Search For A Critique Partner
So…it looks like my search for a critique partner has come to an end. I don’t mean I found someone. I didn’t. Finding someone one has been difficult. I tried out the critique partner connect on Kim Chance’s blog and read through every comment. I found one person whose manuscript is close to my word count. Unfortunately, it’s only in the second draft and I’m looking for someone who is closer to being done. Some of the others seemed like they would make great critique partners but their manuscripts are around the 50,000-80,000 range. I don’t think it’s fair for someone to critique my 180,000+ word MS when their book is much shorter. I’ll check the critique partner connect every so often, but as of now, I’ve come to point where I don’t think I’m going to find one. If you’re looking for a CP I recommend checking out the post I included in the hyperlink above.
News On My Artwork
In other news, I made a banner for this blog as well as my twitter! It’s not too fancy, just simple but it has two of my characters on it. So exciting! 😀 As for my new drawings, I haven’t been able to work on them as much because I’ve been revising my manuscript. I’m currently drawing Rithia, a minor character but still important nonetheless. I decided to start with her because I wanted to practice drawing a female character. I’d say she looks pretty good, still I still have room for improvement. I posted the drawing of her below; still a work in progress. I really want to redraw Alsar, so I might work on him next.
I haven’t talked much about video games on my blog. It is one of my favorite things to do and I play just about everyday, even if only for an hour or less. My SO and I have been playing the Uncharted 4 multiplayer, which I enjoy so much! 😀 I’m so hyped for Final Fantasy XV to be released, but it has been delayed to November. It gives me some time to platinum Uncharted 4, which I’ve been putting off too long, as well as gives me time to work on my book and hopefully finish the 5th draft.
This year from August to November marks the time I first joined social media. I had joined WordPress in November. I was thinking about doing a giveaway, possibly half of my book….not sure yet. Though, I’m afraid not many people will enter. It might be as disappointing as the Bearaway, which is still pinned on my twitter. I’m considering doing it before the end of the year, but I’m not going to make any promises. It depends on how the rest of my revisions go and how soon I can finish.
On my quarter goals list I have listed buy an indie book and read it. I have not done this yet, sadly. I have a few books in mind, all of which are from authors I follow on WordPress as well as one I follow on twitter. I will buy these books. The reason I have been putting it off is because if I buy it, I have to read it right away. I don’t like buying something and setting it aside. I want to enjoy it right then. As of now, I’m so swamped with my manuscript. I really want to support indie author’s because their are so many books out their that deserve recognition. It’s really sad. The last time I recall buying a non indie book was…erm…4 years ago?
Do you play video games? If so, feel free to leave a comment on which ones are your favorites. Do you know of any indie authors? I would love recommendations if you know of any. If you are an artist, I would love to see your artwork.
